DR. FEELGOOD: The only gangsters in Essex with a PHD in R&B discuss feeling good about killing off hippy and giving birth to punk.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART: Witchcraft, UFOs, telekinesis, sabotage, starvation and career suicide, the Magic Band’s John ‘Drumbo’ French recalls the tormented genesis of the group’s classic debut, Safe As Milk.

  • Hugely disappointing CD. Nobody gets it right. the genius of "Madcap" is it's minimalist arrangements and no-frills production. Here it's OTT arrangements and production, thus burying Syd's wonderful melodies and lyrics. Stick with the original album, this remake really sucks.

  • Syd Roger Keith Barrett and Charlotte Gainsbourg in the same issue as major articles, a dream for me. They both are some of the most atmospheric recording artists of our time. Charlotte my first 11yr old crush and Syd teaching me songwriting as a minimalist painter when I was 12.What are the odds. I love them both. Cant fucking wait.

  • Nothing to me is more sad than the untimely death of Roger Barrett, the best solo recording artist supremo ever, but hopefully we will get some new insight from his sister and friends to the end about the publishing of his History of Art book he had been working on for decades. A friend of Barretts, also a friend of mine, did tell me long before his death of his diabetes and his refusal to take his insulin led to the amputation of some of his fingers. How can we let someone soo very much loved no matter what medium he was dedicating himself to,how can we learn to not promote the further destruction and illness of such great people. If you love someone that gives you the right to take charge and promote the well being of such extrordinary people. He needed help and all those who could have helped played on his weakness as a pathetic pathos. He was not a lunatic, he needed respect. And putting him in the light of someone who is mad is a huge lack of respect and careless of his well being. And Charlotte Gainsbourg Im glad you are better and hope you continue to heal well. You are by all means the most beautiful, modest, charismatic woman in the art's of today. You do as you feel fit and you are by all means holding up to the ranks of your father and mother both. He would be proud as hell of you. As he always was.You havent changed a bit from your first Ceasar award when you won best actress at 12. Graceful as one can get.

  • Barrett fans may be interested in knowing that a book featuring his work is being pulled together, and if enough interest can be generated, it may be published. www.barrettbook.com "Essential Works are currently assembling Barrett – a large-format illustrated book centred on the creative life of Roger ‘Syd’ Barrett. Superbly produced, it will be the definitive visual companion to Syd’s work. The book has been authorized by the Syd Barrett Estate and a percentage of the sales from it will go to the Estate. We have put this website together to gauge interest in the book. If it appeals to you, please register and you will help ensure the book goes ahead."
