FREE CD! AFRICA RISING: 13 mind blowing summer grooves from the likes of Tinariwen, Ali Farka Touré, Tony Allen, Toumani Diabete, Oumou Sangare, Konono No. 1 and more!

ARCTIC MONKEYS: Roll up, roll up for Arctic Monkeys’ circus in the desert! Featuring the inside story on the band’s new album Humbug, producer Josh Homme, amps in the toilet, a girlfriend’s jumper, boiled sweets and an exclusive interview with Sheffield’s finest. PLUS! The Monkeys make their live return!

DAVID SYLVIAN: From glam-pop king to free-jazz explorer, David Sylvian has spent the last three decades pushing himself to the limit. But where next for this latter-day Scott Walker? Phil Alexander looks for the answer in this month’s MOJO Interview.

WHITE DENIM: Austin’s trio of Beefheart/P-Funk-inspired tricksters have returned with their new wondrous album Fits. MOJO’s Andrew Perry hitches a ride with one of the most exciting bands out there.

QUEEN UNSEEN: Peter Hince worked for Queen’s road crew for over a decade. His position gave him unprecedented access to the band from their 1975 pomp to their final global trek in 1986. These are just some of the exclusive images he took during that extraordinary journey.

J.J. CALE: MOJO is granted a rare audience with the great American guitarist. “It doesn’t take much to make me happy,” admits the man who wrote Cocaine.

  • Oh, NO! What a unfortunate cover and contents! From bad to worse... Three months without buying the magazine. Better for my pocket, I'm not in the new target of the Mojo magazine: kiddies in love with the hype.

  • An interview with David Sylvian... at last and thank god! Mojo at least has the gumption to do this, unlike the Sylvian-haters over at Word magazine who would rather keep blathering on about Dylan or the Beatles adnaseum!

  • I'll have to get this for the making of Off the Wall, but apart from that - dull, dull, dull.

  • Excellent Sylvian interview and as an old fan, thankyou for the previously unseen pictures (thought I bet David himself might not like that shot from 1974)

  • yes please! The Arctic Monkeys are in my opinion the best band of this decade, well done MOJO for doing a feature, you never let me down on the bands that matter! im hoping for a 5 star review. Bit dissapointed that MJ isnt geting his own issue, but the Arctics are a good alternative.

  • This is the band that said 'dont believe the hype'. The Arctics may have been hyped by a certain magazine, but they are one of the few bands who really deserved it. Well wrtiten lyrics, a work ethic that has virtually died out amoung other modern bands, and a knowledge of music that is rare. I beg you to give them a try, im sure you will see why so many people love them.

  • Great Band, Great looking issue! Why doesn't Michael Jackson get his own issue, this is truely a poor show by Mojo - then again I was wanting a new AM cover story so it's not all bad news. The Housemartins reunion should be a good read as well.

  • Sure, they were hyped with their first album, but more than any other recently hyped band they have delivered and moved beyond their first album to become a truely great band.

  • Hmmm, Artics are ok. Im kind of bored with them now. I just dont seem to be able to warm to the new stuff, I don't see it as progressively great. Maybe its a grower. Looking forward to reading the cribs review. I'm definitely on for buying their new album. Love the title, ignore the ignorant.

  • I was somewhat disppointed that the interview again showed only old photos of david, even the Westernburg full shot was taken from the Nine Horses shoot, the interview was too short, and again concentrated on all of the old material, but apart from that it was good to see a mainstream magazine have the bottle to have sylvian in its publication, other than the Wire magazine, very little has surfaced over the years

  • Please stop covering new music/bands, particularly on the covers of Mojo. Leave that to your other magazine. New music is really terrible - whining in the "verses", screaming in the "choruses", no melodies, no talent.

  • I see Mr Sylvian has now fully morphed into the sinister Count Olaf,at 51 its about time you stopped the preening & posing, you need to practice what you preach, & ditch the conceited plink plink fizz of your self indulgent doleful film score style music and move to the next stage, & write something with real meaning & point.(Orpheus was the last one)The only people who buy your albums now are the desperate old japan fans who are still obsessed with your visage ,the ones who wet themselves at your concerts when you deem it fit to throw them a bone by playing one of your old japan records.Whilst i admire you as an artist its about time you snapped out of these neverending inward looking angst & solitude horse shit .You can surround yourself with accomplished & regarded musicians but you are only kidding yourself if you think you are celebrated by your intellectual peers turning out this shite.I feel i have to say this to you as i believe if someone else had said this to you 20 years ago you could now be a modern poet.Theres still time though, just let your hair down, ditch the uber cool/cold & embrace the banal/frivolous for a change, try it you may just like it and more to the point so may we.
