FREE CD! THE CHANGING MAN. Three lost Paul Weller classics sit alongside 15 gems from the likes of theSmall Faces, William Bell, Gil Scott-Heron, The Staple Singers, Bob Marley and many, many more!

PAUL WELLER: As The Modfather turns 50 and gears up to release his new double set 22 Dreams, MOJO’s Pat Gilbert joins the man who brought us The Jam, The Style Council, Wild Wood and Stanley Road for a booze-blitzed journey through the last thirty years.

DOLLY PARTON: The Queen of country hits the UK to discuss Elvis, the Grand Ole Opry, Porter Wagoner, Jack White, and why she’ll never pander to “someone else’s rules”.

SLASH: In this month’s MOJO interview, the world’s last standing guitar hero talks snakes, heart defibrillators, heroin, the departure of Velvet Revolver’s Scott Weiland and why he’ll always have a “tight” relationship with old chum Axl. Plus! We revisit Slash’s 10 greatest recorded moments and delve into the labyrinthine world of Chinese Democracy.

BOBBY BLAND: He’s the original soul genius that continues to wow generations of performers around the globe. In a world exclusive, MOJO joins Mick Hucknall in Memphis as he spends an inspirational afternoon talking to the man himself.

PRINCE BUSTER: The Godfather of Ska, Cecil Bustamante Campbell (aka Prince Buster) has just celebrated his 70th Birthday. In a five-page special, the Jamaican-born rhythm king leads us “out beyond the jungle”.

MID-TERM REPORT: As spring turns to summer, MOJO profiles the ten new acts that are set to soundtrack the second-half of 2008. Synth-pop! Pastoral harmonies! Garage rock dub sunshine?! Step forward one and all.

REVIEWED! Introducing Bon Iver’s stunning debut / Paul Weller’s double dreamer / Neil Diamond’s come home / The Futureheads return / Sparks get exotic / The Fall / Decca Psyche / Scarlett Johansson / Mudhoney / Pete Molinari / Captain Beefheart / Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip / Aphex Twin and much, much more!

PLUS!
The Bunnyman are back / New Joy Division doc / Lennon lyrics galore / Alison Goldfrapp reveals her self portrait / The Cribs and Johnny Marr / Gimme Shelter again / Rock On Revisited / On the rise: Julie Fowlis and Fucked Up / At home with Iron & Wine.

AND FINALLY! Allen Toussaint plays the MOJO Club! We’ll say that again - Allen Toussaint plays the MOJO Club!

  • I really hope we get the Weller cover here in the US. . .why do the covers have to change from the GREAT UK cover to not-so great American covers. I would have prefered The Special's May cover to Neil Young's.

  • Yes, I wonder about the cover. Weller's international profile is hardly stellar, regardless of what one's opinion of his music might be. I would gladly accept a Dolly Parton cover, given that women have been largely under-represented on Mojo's front page. Due credit being given to a songwriter of her calibre would be warmely received.

  • Slash instead of Weller on the US cover? Can there possibly be any doubt as to who has made a bigger and better musical contibution? By placing Slash ahead of Weller, you are simply feeding your own expectations, failing to reward merit over popularity and undermining the quality of your product.

  • Weller!!!!!! Theres a lot to be done if anybody tries to meet the targets of this Legend. One of the great british songwriters imo! And should be nationwide on front-cover! Thank you for the last 30 years of my life Paul.

  • I was talking to a friend the other day about people in pop that inexplicably rub you up the wrong way. He cited Tears for Fears as a duo that you'd see a picture of and then feel an irresistible urge to punch them. I claimed that I didn't feel that way about anyone. And then I saw the front cover of this month's Mojo.

  • Great to see Weller and the mighty Prince Buster in Mojo. Of course Weller should be the cover and because I live in the UK he is! Terrible news for our U.S. friends to get Slash though - he is just not in the same league. Have to say Mr. Weller is looking a trifle rough on the new cover and that barnet is dodgy!

  • Weller may be a hero to some, but he sure ain't a hero to all. I'm yet to be convinced that he has much artistic merit at all, really. Plus, he looks like a dead set prat in that picture. Didn't Johnny Marr throw that haircut out in 2004? Weller simply doesn't mean that much (with exceptions) to the majority of those outside the UK. To those like me in Australia, there's always been a sense of baffled bemusement at Mojo's ongoing interest in someone who appears to have made one decent album (Wildwood) in the last twenty years. Each to his own, I suppose; and those to love him, you can have him! By the way, Dolly Parton is ten times the songwriter and fifty times the singer that Weller is. I don't know what "business" exactly that Weller takes care of, other than trite cliche'. You've only got to look at the titles of his recent albums - such as Heavy Soul - to realise that he's hoping like hell the pundits aren't going to notice that he's running on empty. Still, he's nice enough I guess. Sorry if I've caused offence. :)

  • DOLLY PARTON???? oh my... If Weller´s not an international superstar, it´s a matter of bad taste of the international market. Dolly Parton is a World Star??? A rock star?? Michael Jackson is a world star and that´s another international market matter.- Weller is a musician who really deserves a cover, i think that´s something you can´t deny, or put in doubt...
